I have been tutoring for four years and I genuinely believe that the right teacher makes an enormous difference. A patient, precise explanation at the right moment can turn frustration into confidence and unlock a subject that felt closed off. That is what I try to provide in every session.

I hold a first-class Master’s degree in Mathematics (MMath) from the University of Bath and am currently a PhD student in probability at Bath, where I also deliver weekly tutorials as a graduate teaching assistant. I’m enhanced DBS checked and have experience running university maths preparation sessions for year 12 students.

My approach

I centre my tutoring on problem-solving. Working through problems is where you actually understand something, and it’s what got me into maths in the first place. I build the difficulty gradually. Each success builds your confidence without jumping ahead too fast and losing you along the way. There’s something special about solving a tricky problem, and I love seeing that moment when something clicks for someone.

Every session combines worked examples, targeted practice, and tips for checking your work and reading questions more carefully. I keep things at a pace you can follow, not just nodding along. We work in 1-hour sessions with progress tracking, homework, and exam prep tailored to what you’re studying. All sessions are online or local in Bath.

Testimonials

“I was looking for a Maths tutor particularly to teach statistics for my daughter studying for her year 2 A Levels. I came across Ben’s profile and liked it so decided to go for a trial lesson. My daughter had already tried a few tutors online but didn’t feel that warmth unlike the feeling she got from Ben. She liked Ben’s style of teaching as he could gauge what her strengths and weaknesses were and then was able to work on them. Ben always encouraged my daughter when he saw she was struggling. Ben was also able to assist with pure maths too which was great. All in all, my daughter felt comfortable during classes and enjoyed Ben’s teaching style. Thanks Ben for all your help.”
A-level parent (Statistics)

“After looking around and trying a few different online tutors, we were very fortunate to find Ben. My daughter needed support with maths and was understandably hesitant about trying another tutor. However, after just one lesson with Ben, she felt completely at ease and was genuinely excited to continue. From the very beginning, Ben was warm, patient, and encouraging. My daughter was not only struggling with understanding maths but was also carrying a great deal of anxiety after years of finding the subject difficult at school. Over the course of 8–9 months, he helped her develop a strong understanding of maths while gently rebuilding her confidence. What stands out most is how he transformed her relationship with the subject. The anxiety that once surrounded maths gradually disappeared. Ben has a wonderful ability to explain things in a way that truly makes sense. He is knowledgeable, thoughtful, and endlessly patient. I would wholeheartedly recommend Ben to anyone looking for an online maths tutor.”
