Ben Holland Young

About me

I am a PhD student at the University of Bath as part of the SAMBa CDT, working on percolation with Christoforos Panagiotis as my supervisor. My research focuses on near-critical behaviour and critical exponents, with a particular interest in slab geometry and its connections to two-dimensional statistical physics models.

My primary research focuses on discrete probabilistic structures such as branching processes, random walks, and spin models in statistical physics. I am also interested in data science, machine learning, and their applications to biology and network science. Beyond research, I tutor mathematics at all levels. I believe tutoring can have a real impact on making mathematics more accessible and helping people reach their full potential in the subject.

Fun fact: my favourite animal is the octopus!
